Students must register with a government-issued email address or provide a telephone contact number for prerequisite verification.
This 3-hour presentation is a case study involving the crisis response to a 2010 ‘Officer Down’ incident wherein the police responded to a domestic violence situation that erupted into an exchange of gunfire upon police arrival. Although originally thought to be deceased, the subject was in fact alive and barricaded; he later called 9-1-1 which was the beginning of several tense hours that alternated between the subject’s paranoid and suicidal behavior and non-response periods. In the fog of unclear information, miscommunication, and a sense of urgency for resolution – there were many missteps along the way. Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from the team leader-turned-primary negotiator of the valuable lessons learned and the ‘take-aways’ that shaped the future of the team.
- Recognize the impact of mindset and bias during an incident involving an injured officer.
- Apply flexible strategies for team assignments during an evolving crisis response.
- Apply corrective action to a breakdown in intra-team communication.
- Validate intelligence in an unstable information environment.
Who should attend this course: CIT officers, ECIT officers, crisis negotiators, tactical operators, and crisis negotiation supervisors.
Prior to the start of the training session, students will receive a hyperlink and password via the “Attendee Email” provided at the time of registration which will provide access to the training session.
