Introduction to Crisis/Hostage Negotiation – is a 4-hour practical introductory course of instruction for first responders, patrol supervisors, tactical team members, dispatchers and mental health professionals supporting law enforcement activities.

Students will learn basic techniques for de-escalating situations involving persons experiencing an emotional or psychological crisis as well techniques for communicating with hostage-takers, barricaded subjects, and persons attempting to commit suicide.

The course of instruction will address de-escalation techniques, active listening skills, and techniques for building rapport and influence. Of particular importance is an in-depth discussion regarding behavioral and verbal indicators for suicide-by-cop as well as techniques for reducing risk.

This course is Missouri POST approved for 4 hours.
