While this course is designed for members of crisis negotiation teams, it is open to all members of law-enforcement or corrections, sworn or non-sworn, including SROs, CIT officers, dispatchers, support personnel, or mental health professionals or chaplains working in support of law-enforcement activities.
Students must register with a government-issued email address or provide a telephone contact number for prerequisite verification.
Incidents that create unique challenges for law enforcement, such as jumpers from bridges, cell towers and overpasses, will be the primary focus of this presentation. Students will learn what they can do from a pre-incident planning perspective to prepare their teams for a high-element response. Students will also learn how aspects of suicidal jumpers impact communication, intervention, scene management and a safe resolution. Working collaboratively with fire and rescue personnel is critical to reducing unnecessary conflict and liability – students will learn how to build collaborative relationships to enhance scene management.
Practical and risk-effective techniques will be presented along with several relevant examples.

Hours: 3-hour course
Readings: Students will receive a handout by the instructor prior to the class start.
Assessments (Project/ Tests, etc.): Students are expected to participate in class discussions as well as participate in small group activities. Check-on-learning quizzes may be conducted in courses where small group activities are not possible.
Type of Certificate: Certificate of completion/MO POST approved for 3 hours of Technical Skills continuing education credit
