The 2019 Bay Area Negotiator Seminar and Challenge will be hosted by the Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office Crisis Negotiations Team, in conjunction with the Bay Area Negotiator Group, at the Museum of Science and Industry Tampa. This is a unique opportunity for Crisis Negotiation Teams from throughout the nation to experience both a seminar and a hands on application of crisis negotiation skills.
On day 1, Participants will attend a series of presentations relative to contemporary issues in crisis negotiations. On day 2, Negotiation teams will participate in a scenario-driven competition. Only 10 teams may register for this competition. Each team is limited to 8 negotiators. Teams will be allowed to compete out of their crisis negotiations vehicles if preferred.
Other negotiators are encouraged to attend the seminar and the challenge for training and observation purposes. Individuals may register to be placed on an ad-hoc, multi-agency team. Judging criteria will be provided to each of the teams prior to the event. Early registration is encouraged.
Teams participating in the competition must provide at least one judge to a judging pool. Judges must have attended at least a 40-hour basic course and have at least 2 years of negotiation experience. Judges should be registered using the same method as registering other participants, except that “Judge Registration” ticket should be selected which exempts judges from the registration fee. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. Although we are capping the competition entry to 10 teams, individuals are encouraged to sign up, and come to the seminar and the competition as an observer.
